Gradient Pumpkin

Using: Path Drawing Tool, Outline Drawing Tool,
Paint Brush, Magic Wand, Transform Tool, Line & Arrow Tool and Trace Edges

IMPORTANT: As soon as you complete Step 1, save your work as a ufo.
Continue to save often as you progress through this tutorial.

Steps 01

Create a new image 400 w x 400 h.  Activate the Path Drawing Tool Path Drawing Tool, draw a 2D circle any color 254 in diameter.  Now using the edit path Path Drawing Tool, add a node on each side of the top node.

Pull the top center node downward; the two nodes you created pull upward and the handles outward.

Lastly pull the bottom node handles outward as shown in the diagram to your left.

You may wish to experiment with the nodes and create a different shape as pumpkins are like snowflakes, no two are alike!

Steps 01

For the color, right click on your color square and select gradient fill.

In the Gradient Fill box, check two colors then click on the left color square for the hex# place #FFCE3C click ok.

Now click on the right color square for the hex# place #CA4700.

Click on the diagonal arrow then select ok.

Duplicate and change the color (any color for now).

Curved Lines

Magic Wand

Activate the Line & Arrow Tool Line & Arrow Tool , using the spline create curved 1 width lines as shown in the diagram to your left.

Go to your layer manager and click on your gradient filled circle.
Now click the "Enter" key on your keyboard to deselect it. Activate the Magic Wand Line & Arrow Tool and follow the steps below:

Step 01:  click on the plus sign then click on one of your solid circle segments as shown in the diagram to your left.

Step 02:  Right click, expand/shrink set expand by 1, check the circle and accept.

Step 03:  Go to Edit, Trace Edges, Selection Marquee and select the default settings by clicking ok.

Step 04:  Change the Horizontal Deform to 2D object (you should see your gradient in the color square).

Step 05:  Right click on your color square , change the fill type to the arrow pointing right and click ok.

Follow steps 1-5 until all segments are completed.

Pumpkin!

Tidy Time!  Go to the layer manager, holding down the "shift" key on your keyboard, select all your black curved lines, right click and delete.

Holding the shift key, select all your pumpkin segments, right click, group and label "p-top".

Select you full gradient pumpkin and label "p-bottom".

Right click and delete your solid colored pumpkin and now your pumpkin should look similar to the image to the left.

If you have not saved your pumpkin, please save it as a ufo now and continue to do frequent saves as your progress along.   Right click, group all and label "pumpkin" in your layer manager.
