Let's get started!
Create a new image 400 w x 400 h. Activate the Path Drawing Tool
,
you can use any shade of green you wish, I used #699B00. Create a 2D circle and duplicate it three times, overlap circles then horizontally align as shown in the diagram to your left.
When finished create a diamond shape; the center of your diamond should align with the top of your first circle. Duplicate, using the arrow on your keyboard align the second diamond with the bottom of your last circle.
Now that they are aligned, right click, select all and merge as a single. Go to Edit, Trace Edges, click on Selection Marquee and click OK. Change the horizontal deform mode to 2D Object and add a black border of 2. Delete the second layer in your layer manager as you no longer need it.

Activate the Line & Arrow Tool
,
using the spline set to black draw a line from the top point of your pea to the bottom as in the diagram to your left.
Use the Transform Tool to now widen the pea pod; be sure it is unlocked. Right click and duplicate your line using the Transform Tool to "flip horizontally" and place joining each at the points. When in place, go to your layer manager, holding the shift key, select your first two layers, right click and group your lines. Label this layer "lines" so your can easily find it later.
Activate your Magic Wand (make sure you pea is selected and you have clicked on the plus sign), click your mouse in between your lines, right click and expand/shrink by one, check circle and click OK. Right click a second time and convert to an object.
Go to Edit, Trace Edges, click on Selection Marquee and click OK. Change the horizontal deform mode to 2D Object and add a black border of 2. Delete the second layer in your layer manager as you no longer need it.

Now we are ready to create some peas for the pod! Activate the Path Drawing Tool, create a small circle to fit inside your two lines. I used the color #3A4F00, which looks dark right now but we will be adding another highlight circle later. Duplicate your circle and continue to do so until your pod is lined with peas. You can use the Transform Tool to enlarge your peas once you are done.
A quick way to enlarge and reduce using the Transform Tool is to simple raise and lower the numbers as needed making sure the lock is closed.
Now for the highlight circles, we will click on each pea circle one at a time, duplicate it and then change the color to a lighter shade, I used #5A8700. Once your circles are complete, reduce in size and place them to the top left of each circle as shown in the diagram to the left.
One more highlight to go, this time create a weenie little circle, I used color #E6FFAD. Place the weenie little circle toward the top left of your pea.
On the layer manager, holding down the shift key select all your circles, group them and label this layer "peas". While your in there, locate your layer labeled "lines" and send it to the top. Group the remaining layers and label it "pod".

Time for the pea top! Right click and select all objects using the arrow key on your keyboard to shift them to the bottom of your images. Activate your paint brush, select any color you desire as we will later change it. Click on paint in object mode , and paint a shape similiar to one in the diagram to your left. Go to Edit, Trace Edges, click on Selection Marquee and click OK. Change the horizontal deform mode to 2D Object, I changed the color to #699B00 and added a black border of 2. In your layer manager delete the second layer as you no longer need it and label your first layer "top".
Let's fix it, activate the edit path object , delete and add nodes where needed; pull, push and whip your shape into a stem!

You could stop at this point, but I like to add some country touches!
Activate the Line & Arrow Tool using the spline create some dark 1 width lines on the side of your pod and on the top stem. I used #4A6F00. On the layer manager, hold down the shift key and select all your dark lines, group and label "dark".
Next, I added some lines to the left of the pod and top stem. I used #95DD00. On the layer manager, hold down the shift key and select all your medium lines, group and label "medium".
Lastly, I've added some lines using the color #E6FFAD. You can see where I placed them on the diagram to your left. Once you are done, go to your layer manager, holding down on the shift key, select and group all your light lines and label "light".
All done! Save your ufo one last time and at this point you may wish to group all layers and drag it to your easy palette for future projects. Hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
