Step 01

Let's get started! Create a new image 350 w x 400 h.  Activate the Path Drawing Tool Path Drawing Tool and change the color to #F2E9E4.   Make a 3D rectangle 260 w x 360 h and deselect.   Looks odd...I know!

Now create a 2D rectangle 240 w x 340 h using the same color.  Right click and select all objects; right click again > align > center both; right click > group > deselect.   Now it looks much better!

See sample to the left.

Custom Shape B08 Step 03

Activate the Path Drawing Tool, keeping the color #F2E9E4 make a 2D object of custom shape B08, 100w x 86 h.   Using the edit path Edit Path, bow the sides as shown to the left of this screen.

Right click, duplicate and change the color to black.  Click on the pick tool Pick Tool and send backwards Pick Tool once.

Step 04

Using the transform tool Pick Tool, expand 2 pixels on each side as shown on the left of this screen.  Besure it is unlocked!

Open your layer manager Layer Manager, holding the shift key select both layers of objects B08 then right click and merge as a single object.  Deselect.

Step 05 Custom Shape Fr31

Using the Path Drawing Tool, set the color to black, create a 2D rectangle 12 w x 29 h.   Right click, duplicate and place as shown in the image to the left.

Next create a 16 w x 16 h 2D object using custom shape Fr31 and place between the two small rectangles as shown to the left.

Open your layer manager, holding the shift key select both small rectangles and Fr31, right click and merge as a single object.   While holding the shift key select your top two layers, right click>group; now right click, duplicate and place in proportion on your switch plate.  Deselect.

Step 07

With the path drawing tool, create a 2D circle 29 w x 29 h using the color #F2E9E4.  This is the start of your screw head, now create a 2D rectangle 6 w x 31 h using the color #CDC3BC and place in the center as shown to the left.

Using the outline path drawing tool, line width Line Width hairline set to 0, color #383838, create a 30 w x 30 h circle to outline your screw head.

Zoom in on your circle (screw head) then activate your paintbrush, settings as follows:  color~#7C7C7C, brush shape~square, brush head size~1, stroke transparency and softness at 0, painting mode~straight line, and paint as object activated.  Draw a line on one side of the rectangle within the screw head, then right click, duplicate and place on the opposite side of your rectangle.

Open your layer manager, holding the shift key select the first five layers, right click and group.  Place your screw in the center of your switch plate.

Using the outline path drawing tool, create a 2D rectangle 239 w x 341 h, line width hairline set to 0 and #383838 for the color.  Place as shown in diagram.  Do one final save as a ufo and now you have a template to create a decorative switch plate.  Enjoy!

Below are a few samples of what you can create!  The image in the center came with PI version 12.
